Tech Notice: Samsung Tizen root certificate expiration issue

Technical issue update on Samsung Smart Signage Platform (SSSP) by Tizen. It might affect your digital signage infrastructure.

Starting today, October 27th 2022, the Samsung Tizen operating system’s root certificate expires, which may affect the functionality of your digital signage infrastructure. This affects all displays using Samsung Tizen (SSSP4+).

Due to the complex Tizen architecture, this certificate is connected with all Tizen and connected 3rd-party vendors’ infrastructures. That includes, but is not limited to, all installed digital signage applications, updates, network connections, and others.  

In simple words, that means you may face severe problems with your digital signage infrastructure built on Tizen OS, like:

  • No ability to display any content
  • Unstable content display 
  • Unable to update content
  • “Black screen” problem - content changing to empty screens

This issue might be hard to resolve due to the need to re-develop digital signage software. 

Samsung is investing a lot in working with the developer community and their partner ecosystem. Displayforce, as a Samsung partner, is always on top of such cases and plans our software development in advance to avoid issues like this.
